El partido de Chile vs EEUUU por el segundo día de torneo femenino de hockey de los Juegos Panamericanos comenzó con un estadio lleno. Desde el primer instante ambos equipos lucharon por  el dominio e impidieron mutuamente que su rival anotara. El juego iba de un lado al otro durante el primer tiempo. Ambos equipos tuvieron oportunidades para atacar pero ninguno capitalizó. Alrededor del minuto 33 la chilena Daniela CARAM recibió tarjeta verde. EEUU trató de tomar ventaja y consiguió enseguida un corner corto, que no pudo concretar. EEUU incrementó la presión en el último tramo del primer tiempo, pero la defensa chilena se mantuvo fuerte. El partido permaneció sin tantos hasta el descanso.

El Segundo tiempo comenzó con la misma historia que el primero … ambos equipos batallando por el dominio. Fue EEUU quien abrió el marcador con Shannon TAYLOR en el minuto 41. Inmediatamente de reiniciado el partido EEUU continuó atacando intensamente y se hizo de un tiro penal. Caroline NICHOLS anotó y puso a su equipo en ventaja por 2-0 sobre Chile. Chile se mantuvo fuerte y en el minuto 46 marcó desde un corner corto para achicar la diferencia a favor de EEUU a un gol. El resto del partido EEUU lideró la ofensiva pero la defensa chilena evitó que volvieran a marcar. Chile luchó por generar oportunidades de ataque durante el final del partido, pero fue EEUU quien se alzó con la victoria por 2-1 sobre Chile

This was a match of the two highest ranked teams in our Pool, so I expected it to be a tough match. It took a long time to break through and that first goal helped bury the game. But Chile applied great pressure late. I knew we would have few opportunities against Chile and that after our first goal Chile would be disappointed. So we pushed hard to get another goal and it paid off.
