Cuba and Mexico had comfortable 3-1 and 4-0 wins in Pool A against Barbados and Jamaica respectively. While in Pool B Trinidad and Tobago played to a 2-2 draw with Dominican Republic and Guyana got their first win when they beat Bermuda 1-0, at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games (Women).

Barbados got out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal by Joanna DAVIS but Cuba’s Yaniuska PASO brought her team back on level terms at the stroke of half time to make it 1-1. Marisbel SIERRA secured Cuba’s 3-1 victory with two unanswered goals in the second half.

Mexico scored three goals in an eleven minute spell to take a 3-0 half time lead against Jamaica with Eliana COTA, Maria CORREA and Karen OROZCO scoring one goal each. Dafne CARMONA added a 4th goal for her team in the second half to make it 4-0. Jamaica despite defending most of the match earned several penalty corners but could not put any of them away.

Cuba and Mexico who are both on 6 points have already qualified for the semi-final round and will face each other on 20 November 2014 at 9:30 a.m. to determine the final places in Pool A.

In Pool B, Trinidad and Tobago and Dominican Republic battled to a 2-2 draw. Blair WYNNE gave Trinidad and Tobago a brief 1-0 lead in the 6th minute until Benifer MORONTA scored the equalizer 2 minutes later. MORONTA scored a penalty stroke in the 20th minute but Trinidad drew level from a well-executed penalty corner four minutes before the end of the half. Neither team added to the 2-2 first half score line.

Guyana’s Leigh SANDISON 55th minute strike proved to be the decisive goal in her team’s 1-0 victory over Bermuda who defended stubbornly for most of the game.

Dominican Republic have ended their pool matches on 7 points, while Trinidad and Tobago who are currently on 4 points will play Guyana who are on 3 points in the final Pool B match on 20 November 2014 at 7:30 a.m. The semi-finalists will come from these three teams.
