Team effort for Canada beats United States in the final of the 2014 Mens Indoor Pan American Cup. In the match to decide third place, Argentina and Guyana played and a thrilling tie by Guyana’s Jamarj Assanah in the final minute led to a shoot out where Assanah guided Guyana to victory. With the win, Canada earns a spot in the 2015 Indoor World Cup.

In the final of the 2014 Mens Indoor Pan American Cup, Canada and the United States played. Canada took the early 1-0 lead over United States off a Jeewanjoth Bath field goal in the 6th minute. United States then earned their first penalty corner of the match, but Canada’s keeper Shankar Premakanthan came up with the save. Canada kept up their attacking pressure and five minutes later, Captain Ken Pereira made it a 2-0 match over the United States. With the United States defense holding off the Canadian pressure for the rest of the half, the halftime score remained Canada 2, United States 0. The second half started with the United States on attack and Sebastian Scheurer scored in the 21st minute. Canada continued to dominate possession in their attacking half and Micah Teixeira put Canada ahead again by two goals in the 32nd minute. The United States did not let up and Moritz Runzi scored four minutes later cut Canada’s lead to one goal. The last few minutes of the match were intense as the United States looked to tie the match. Canada’s Jonathan Roberts, however, scored in the 39th minute to make it a 4-2 score that remained the final score to secure the first place victory for Canada.

Thus, Canada will be the champions of the 2014 Mens Indoor Pan American Cup; and United States will finish with the silver medal.

In the third place match, the Argentina and Guyana played hard for third place. For much of the first half, play was in Argentina’s attacking half. Argentina’s Agustin Ceballos scored first in the 7th minute. Guyana’s defense played strong for the rest of the match however to prevent another goal by Argentina. The halftime score was Argentina 1, Guyana 0. The second half started like the first, with a goal by Ceballos in the 26th minute. Guyana kept up the intensity and Robert France scored two minutes later to cut Argentina’s lead by one goal. Both teams continued to fight and Guayana’s Jamarj Assanah scored off a penalty corner in the final minute to send the match into a penalty shoot out. Assanah again came up big in the shoot out as his two shoot out scores led Guyana to the shoot out victory.

Thus, Guyana finished in 3rd place and Argentina in fourth at the 2014 Mens Indoor Pan American Cup.
