Trinidad & Tobago vs. Barbados : 3 - 0

The Caribbean derby match opened the Hockey Tournament after an important delay due to bad weather.

Both teams had a number of chances to net but it was Trinidad & Tobago who achieved the advantage through player #10, Stacey SIU BUTT after 27 minutes of play; SIU BUTT had an outstanding performance throughout the game. From that moment to the very end of the match her team gained the control of the game with a final result of 3-0, resulting from two more goals from Blair WYNNE; minute 39 and 49.

Bermuda vs. Guyana : 0 - 0

Bermudian players opened the game with a number of opportunities in the circle but Guyana’s defence frustrated their ambitions to score. The players from the Earth of Water had some chances to net too, but again no goals were scored. The game ended 0 -0, first match of the tournament with no goals.

Mexico vs. Dominican Republic : 6 - 0

No doubt this was an attractive match with Mexican team beating Dominicans 6 -0. Very early Maria Guadalupe CORREA CORNEJO player #8 opened the score with the first penalty stroke of the tournament at minute 13; the ball had hit the last player right in front of the goal line. Some minutes later at minute 23rd it was player #2 Eloísa ESCOBAR GARCÍA, who netted from a Penalty Corner. Mexican team went to the half time with an advantage of two goals.

Right after the restart the Captain Michel NAVARRO HERNADEZ, player #10, scored at minute 48. This gave the control to the Mexicans who were able to net to more times through Eloísa ESCOBAR GARCIA and Guadalupe MARTINEZ DAUZON (two goals) to finish 6 - 0.

Jamaica vs. Puerto Rico : 3 - 1

This turned to be an exciting match to close the first day of the tournament. The host had to play against Jamaica who, unfortunately for the locals opened the score with a goal of Racene JOHNSON, player #2 at minute 18 to take the lead 1-0.

Jamaica was determined to win and it was at minute 32 that they increased the score through player #14, Shareeka ELLIOTT ending at the top in the first half.

Puerto Rico returned to the pitch with more energy and the desire to score, but it was Jamaica again who scored from a penalty stroke by their Captain, Dadreann CLARKE. The girls in white and red kept on trying and finally were able to net from a nice field play by Natasha RUFAFALO ROMAN at minute 66 bringing joy to their fans and achieving a final result 3 - 1.
