It wasn’t easy but Chile were able to find the net twice on several chances for a 2-0 victory over Mexico and ultimately second place in Pool B. Carolina Garcia and Manuela Urroz each scored for Chile in the win.

Chile and Mexico went scoreless in the opening 30 minutes of the game. Mexico’s Jennifer Valdes had a lobbing sweep shot that floated over the Chile goal but outside of that Chile maintained the majority of the flow. Chile earned back-to-back penalty corners in the sixth minute but both of Camila Caram’s shots were saved by Jesus Castillo in goal for Mexico. Consuelo de las Heras had a solo chance at goal in the 17^th minute but she slid the ball just wide of the goal. It was much of the same in the second quarter as Chile maintained possession but neither team had any promising scoring chances.

Chile opened the scoring on a penalty corner in the 31^st minute. Caram slid the ball down to Garcia, who injected the ball, and the veteran midfielder roofed the ball in to the goal for a 1-0 Chile lead. Just minutes later the Diablas doubled their lead thanks to another penalty corner play. Caram pushed the ball down to de las Heras who redirected the ball up and in front of the goal for Urroz to deflect up in to the Mexican goal for a 2-0 Chile lead.

Chile had chances through the game but Mexico did well to make it very crowded in the circle. Urroz nearly got on the board again on a penalty corner deflection but the ball sailed wide of the goal. It was sort of the story for Chile but the result was achieved and the Diablas earn second place in Pool B to now cross over with Uruguay.
