3 | Pool A | 4:00pm | JAM - CUB | 0 - 5 (0 - 2) | Final |
A much more confident Cuban team entered the third match with the will to close the series with a positive result. From the first whistle Cuban players were focused and were able to keep good ball control, driving into the 23 meter area of Jamaica using the sides of the field and the ability of their skillful forwards. They scored in the third minute. However, the early goal did not scare the Jamaican girls who started to press the midfield Cuban players confronting them where the attacking plays were starting. Even so, Cuban backline provided good coverage for a few missed and stolen balls that Jamaica tried to push into the Cuban circle. A quick breakdown from Cuba caught Jamaica defense unprepared and a deflection after the hard cross into the circle gave the Cuban team a 2 – 0 lead on the first half.
Jamaica came back to the second half looking really decided to score, showing that they were able to match up the Cubans, and if they could have converted the many penalty corner opportunities, the game could have been tied by the 50th minute. Nevertheless, the efforts to even with the Cubans dropped down Jamaica’s stamina and the Cubans overmatched them in the last 10 minutes, scoring 3 more times before the end of the game. The fair play spirit was predominant and both teams were celebrating the successful event that took place in the Mona Field Hockey in Kingston.
