Match Report

Six different scorers got on the board as Argentina picked up their second win of pool-play after eliminating Trinidad and Tobago 6-0.

Jose Tolini put Argentina up 1-0 in the third minute of the game finishing on a penalty corner drag flick, also his third goal of the tournament. From there, Argentina was clearly in control but Trinidad and Tobago did have a few runs to challenge the Argentine back line. In the 13th minute a nice passing play from Tariq Marcano to Marcus James then found the stick of Teague Marcano but the deflection was saved by the foot of Argentina keeper Juan Vivaldi.

In the second quarter Trinidad and Tobago served two penalties within the same minute with Kristien Emmanuel sitting for a green card, while Lyndell Byer went off with a yellow. Despite being down two players it was Trinidad and Tobago that seemed to have the momentum. Argentina earned a penalty corner but the shot by Martin Ferreiro was saved and sparked some energy for Trinidad and Tobago. Marcano crafted his way on a solo fun into the circle but in his last out-stretched effort couldn’t beat Vivaldi. Just moments later Marcano was on the end of another pass right in the middle of the goal but Vivaldi got a touch to intercept.

Spread up the field looking for a goal, Agustin Mazzilli teamed up with Lucas Vila on a passing play in to the circle. Karlos Stephen came sliding out and with expert patience Mazzilli froze and then drew to his back hand and blasted a shot in to the goal for a 2-0 Argentina lead. The Leones added one more from half when a sideline free hit near the 50-yard line was blasted by Nicolas Cicileo towards goal. Matias Paredes caught the Trinidad and Tobago back line sleeping and deflected the ball in for a 3-0 Argentina lead.

Trinidad and Tobago started to lose steam in the third quarter opening the game up for Argentina. Shaquille Daniel ran down three-straight Argentina penalty corners but on the fourth one Maico Casella’s rocket in to the net lifted the Leones 4-0. Hard work from Lucas Martinez on the baseline set up Mazzilli for a far post tap-in and a fifth Argentina goal.

Martinez netted a sixth goal for Argentina who enter the final day of pool-play with two wins.
