The 1st game of Pool A in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean (Women) saw Cuba beating Jamaica 4-0 on an overcast morning in Veracruz, Mexico.
Cuba got off to a fast start at the opening whistle with Marisbel SIERRA getting the opening goal in the 4th minute for her team. Cuba continued to push Jamaica back in their defensive half and this paid off as Helec CARTA scored a field goal in the 10th minute. Four minutes later Marisbel SIERRA got her second goal of the game.
Jamaica eventually settled into their game and gave an improved performance in the final stages of the 1st half, which ended 3-0.
Cuba started the second half briskly and within the first two minutes Yunia MILANES scored a field goal and increased her team’s lead to 4-0. Jamaica responded valiantly but while they were unable to create many scoring chances, they improved their defensive play and denied Cuba from increasing their tally.
The top two teams in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games will qualify for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.
