It is with deep regret that the Barbados Hockey Federation informs our Pan American Hockey Family of the passing of Mr. Michael Owen, the father of former Barbados National players Mark and Neil Owen. Michael Owen, known to many as 'Mike Owen', was one of the three individuals who conceptualized and started The Barbados Banks International Hockey Festival back in 1986.
Mike was a passionate Hockey enthusiast and supporter, and often brought Hockey to the Barbados Public through his astute journalism and brilliant photography. He also did public relations and fund-raising for the Barbados Special Olympics drive.
Mike remained a quiet, easy going, and respectful individual to the end, qualities of the man which stood out to the very end. He contributed greatly to the development of hockey in Barbados, embraced art, photography and music. He will be missed.
