Field Hockey Canada is inviting applications for the position of General Manager, Field Hockey High Performance & National Teams. Located in Vancouver, and reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager (GM) will be responsible for leading and executing the vision of Field Hockey Canada’s High Performance (HP) strategy and National Team Programs. S/he will be responsible and have delegated authority for all national team programs management within the scope of the approved High Performance strategy, performance targets, budget and identified management areas in accordance with all Field Hockey Canada policies. All National Head Coach positions, Sport Science, Medicine and Technology Lead, national team trainers and specialty coaches, Center of Excellence management lead will report to the GM.
The ideal candidate will possess a university degree in a field related to coaching, sport science, or sport management and have a minimum of seven years of increasingly responsible professional experience in a leadership role.
As a strategic thinker and long-range visionary, the successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working at the international level of sport and a national federation model. The GM will have the capacity to understand the multifaceted road to success including the roles and contributions of coaches, trainers, domestic team managers, and, sport science and medicine professionals (e.g. psychologists, nutritionists, medical staff, strength and conditioning coaches and technology).
Additional requirements:
- Capacity to lead a diverse team to success and ensure they contribute to the achievement of the overall strategic goals of the organization
- Demonstrate excellent inter-personal and communication skills
- Strong management, organizational, budget and computer skills
- Ability to network and build strong relationships within the domestic and international field hockey community
- Excellent oral and written English language skills; Oral and written French language skills would be an asset
- Ability and willingness to adapt to change quickly, and manage accordingly
- Well organized with the ability to:
. Manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently
. Establish priorities and meet deadlines
. Develop and execute work plans
. Work under pressure
- Proven ability to work with a minimum of supervision and take the initiative to address problems in a creative manner that contributes positively to the team effort.
