The Pan American Hockey Federation has announced the schedule for the 2017 Pan American Cups, men and women, to be hosted by the US Field Hockey Association at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Lancaster, PA from August 4 to August 13, 2017.
For the fans, the Spooky Nook Sports Complex (the “Home of Hockey”) offers a variety of activities when not watching hockey, ensuring a memorable event experience. For those not on site, the PAHF and USFHA will be providing a comprehensive coverage via different channels.
Alongside the actual hockey tournament, FIH Hockey Academy courses, PAHF Committee and Board meetings, as well as the Bi-annual PAHF Congress, will be held in Lancaster.
The Pan American Cup is a direct qualifier to the FIH World Cup, for both genders, and a pathway for qualification to the Pan Am Games. The 2018 World Cups will be held in India for the men and England for the women.
Each team will play three pool matches to decide the semi-finals and classification matches for final rankings.
“I am looking forward to a great event, where hockey will benefit from the good organization and from the gathering of the Pan American hockey community,” said Coco Budeisky, PAHF President.
“We’re nearly 5 months out until the Pan American Cups begin and our team of premier program creators in conjunction with PAHF have already begun assembling what is sure to be a phenomenal experience for both players and fans,” said Simon Hoskins, USA Field Hockey’s Executive Director. “We look forward to hosting a wide variety of national teams while also attracting new and veteran fans of the hockey to the event.”
“The Local Organizing Committee is working diligently with the community to ensure all participating teams have a welcoming and fun experience in the heart of Lancaster County,” said Lisa McCoy, General Manager of the Pan American Cup Committee. “Around the event, we are also working on several initiatives like the creation of FIH / PAHF Coach and Umpire Education Courses.”
For the Men’s competition, Argentina (current Olympic Champions and ranked 2nd in the world), Chile (26th), USA (29th) and Venezuela (47th) will make up Pool A while Canada (11th), Brazil (25th), Trinidad & Tobago (33rd) and Mexico (40th) will compete in Pool B.
