Barbados and Guatemala played in day 3 of the men competition under a sunny sky in the Siglo XXI Stadium in Salamanca.

Dominic Hill’s team was looking for their first three points of the tournament and walked in showing their powerful offensive play.

Barbados made the net 8 times in Pablo Lopez’s goal, in the first half. The second half was led by Barbados too; they added three for a final result of 11-0 for Barbados.

The Barbadians had their first win; they will face Mexico next Saturday at 16:45.

With packed stands the locals played Trinidad & Tobago women on the last match of the day. Fernanda Oviedo was congratulated for her 50 caps.

Arely Castellanos’ girls stepped into the pitch gaining quickly the control and taking the lead very early thru Marlet Cristina Correa.

It was Mexico who created the best offensive opportunities along the game. The first half was very tight and the scoreboard remained calm.

In the second period the Mexicans continued the pressure and soon found their reward from a penalty corner well executed by Eliana Cota, and Michel Navarro. The game ended in a win for Mexico with a difference of 3 a 0.

The host will play Guatemala, again tomorrow in the opening match of the second round. Trinidad & Tobago will play same opponent on Saturday.
