This morning, Siglo XXI Stadium opened its doors to host the World League thru the next weekend with the participation of 7 teams from five Nations.  USA and Barbados played the men’s opening match. The first half was even and none of teams were able to score. Dominic Hill’s team did a good job in defense in the first 35 minutes; the teams went into the half time with the score in 0.

In the second half USA took the lead and hurt Andre Boyce’s net twice. It was thru Jemar Small that Barbados was able to minimize the difference but again USA made the net. The final result was 3-1 for USA.

And then came the women. Mexico had a big victory over Guatemala for 18-0 on the opening game of the female competition.

"We faced a very good team that has been training on this field. There are still many players to arrive before the next match, "said Andrea Mazariego, Captain of Guatemala’s National Team.

At the end of day one, of the World League and after the official opening Ceremony by the Major, Mexico’s men played Guatemala. The host won 7-0.

Mexico had the control throughout the match and went to the break with a lead of three goals. In the second half the Mexicans broke Guatemala’s defense once more and added 7 more goals to the score. “Our team did not have a good performance, today. We had a different plan that we could not activate. For sure we will be able to put the correct plan in place tomorrow when we play USA", said Marco Antonio Molina, Mexico’s coach.

Two games are scheduled for tomorrow; the women competition will find Guatemala and Trinidad & Tobago and the men’s Mexico -  USA. Both teams went out with victories, today so the challenge is big for both teams.
