2016 South American Championships / World League R1

Chiclayo, July 29. The women's teams from Brazil and Paraguay will be on the pitch to kick-off on the start of the Hockey World League Round 1, first FIH tournament organized in Peru. It is also valid for the PAHF South American Championships 2016, men and women. Chiclayo is located about 750 kilometers northwest of Lima, the capital city. The event begins the 30th of September and is organized by the Peruvian Hockey Federation in coordination with the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF).

Uruguay vs. Venezuela and Peru vs. Chile will complete the first day of the competition to be played on the official field installed inside the San José School, with the participation of six teams per gender.

The men's tournament starts on the 1st of October with the participation of Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela, Paraguay, Ecuador and the host team. The competition system is round-robin tournament and will run until the 9th of October. The winner of the men’s tournament will qualify to Round 2. In the women’s side, the first two teams will qualify to the next phase.

Legacy of the hockey competition held on the 2013 Bolivarian Games, the pitch Chiclayo also hosted, last year in October, the Pan American Challenge, the first PAHF tournament organized in Peru.
