The II Central American Indoor Hockey Tournament started today at the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional de Tegucigalpa venue. Day 1 of the Tournament featured eight matches, both women and men. Tomorrow the day will be identical, beginning at 9:00 with two men’s matches.

Opening the tournament and debuting in Indoor Hockey, Honduras defeated Panama with a 13-1 score.

"This is their first game and the players were nervous. We have many things to improve for the next game", said men's National Team Coach, Oscar Enrique Medina Panchamé.

Later, El Salvador and Costa Rica played a great match. Both teams were anxious and the final score was not defined until the last minute of the match. El Salvador won 5-4 and will play again tomorrow at 10:00 against Panama.

As for the women’s round-robin, Guatemala defeated Honduras 5-0.

Despite the result for Honduras, the team’s attitude was outstanding in their first exposure.

By the middle of the sports day, Costa Rica defeated El Salvador 3-1.

The Tournament carried on soon after midday, with men’s matches.

Guatemala’s debut in the Tournament and Honduras playing for the second time.

In the second half of the day, Guatemala’s debut took place.  Regardless the fatigue due to the long trip to Tegucigalpa, the team played a great match, acquiring 3 points, after beating Honduras 14-0.

Panama, this morning big winner, played their second match of the day in the afternoon, but could not repeat the victory.  Costa Rica, adjusted details and by the end of the game, was able to secure their first 3 points of the Tournament beating Panama 7-5.

Day 1 of the Tournament closed with two women’s matches. Panama’s debut and victory over El Salvador with a 2-1 win, and closing Day 1, Guatemala beat Costa Rica 3-2.

 Tomorrow, in the women’s competition El Salvador will play one match, while Honduras, Panama and Costa Rica will play two matches each.

In the men’s competition, Costa Rica and Honduras will play one match, while Panama, Guatemala and El Salvador will play two matches.
