Once more, Argentina is hosting FIH Champions Trophy, this time at the National Hockey Stadium in Mendoza.

Santiago Capurro’s team will fight to recover the top position achieved in Rosario in 2012, after they lost their throne against Netherlands in the shoot out competition in 2013.

Las Leonas played against Germany, a game with many mistakes and many opportunities for both teams; thou it was Argentina who was able to capitalize with a penalty corner by Agustina Habif in the last quarter.

The new hockey 60 minute format, is being used at this tournament, moving from two halves of 35 minutes to four 15-minute quarters with 40-second time-outs when a penalty corner is awarded and after a goal is scored. This format ensures 60-minute playing time, no dead time associated with penalty corner set up, and plenty of time for teams to celebrate their goals.

The Argentinean squad, leaded by Capurro is the best ranked (3rd in FIH World Ranking) within PAHF Region and was the first team to qualify for the 2015 Pan American Games, to be played in Toronto, Canada after they won the Gold at the South American Championship in Santiago, Chile in March 2014.

One of the most touching moments of the day was when Leandro Negre (FIH President) presented a gift  to Luciana Aymar, 8 times best player of the world. Luciana has started her countdown; playing the first of her last international games with Argentina National Team. As addressed to the Press, Argentinean player #8 will retire after this tournament.

All games will be broadcasted “live” thru FIH YouTube Channel. https://www.youtube.com/user/fihockey

In Argentina, “Las Leonas” matches will be on the Public TV in Channel 7.
