With emotion and excitement teams and officials opened men’s indoor tournament at Curridabat College in San Jose, Costa Rica. The host and El Salvador are participating for the first time at an international tournament. Most of the Umpires and Officials at the tournament are also making their first presentation and will use the learning during technical and umpiring course they attended before the tournament.

Guatemala and Panama played in the first match of the men’s competition. Guatemala was beaten 7-2 (1-5) by Panama.

El Salvador and the host, Costa Rica played the second match on the first day of the men’s tournament. It was the first ever international match for both teams. El Salvador won 6-1 (3-0). El Salvador took the lead of the match scoring six  times while Costa Rica was able to score only once in the second period.

Panamá and Ecuador met in the third game on the first day of men’s competition. The victory was for Panama 3-1 over Ecuador. It was a closed game during the first minutes of play, with penalty corners for both teams. Panama scored first from a penalty corner giving them the confidence to add two more goals. El Salvador was able to score once in the second period. The final score was 3-1 for Panama.

In the last game of the first day of the men’s competition Guatemala and Costa Rica played. The final score, 9-0 for Guatemala was the result of their supremacy during the entire match. Guatemala earned a number of penalty corners early in the first period and capitalized their efforts. Costa Rica had a few chances from penalty corners but was not able to score.

Two wins for Panama’s ladies

Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama’s women team arrived to the venue at the Curridabat College in San Jose, Costa Rica. Teams were very excited as this was their first participation at an international, regional tournament. It was the big effort of the host and participant countries, and PAHF support that made possible the organization of the event. A  Technical and an umpiring course were run in conjunction with the tournament, for the education and development of the newest hockey nations within the Pan-American region.

On the first day of the Central America Indoor Championship the women from Panama and Costa Rica played. Panama leaded the game and beat the host 5-0. Costa Rica reached the opponent area only a few times and was awarded 3 penalty corners. Panamá took the opportunity and leaded the entire match.

In the second match of the women’s tournament Guatemala and Panama played. Guatemala was beaten by Panama’s girls 1-4.

There were no clear productions during the match and both teams looked for a win. It was Panama who scored and went out with their second victory.
