The Pan American Hockey Federation has completed the process for awarding tournaments for the period 2015-2017. The Board of Directors approved the recommendations of the Bid Evaluation Committee, set-up in April 2014 for analyzing the proposals received from a number of member countries. The Bid Committee considered the quality of proposals, venues, accommodations conditions and prices, continental spread, and good record of hosting capability. “PAHF looks forward to have first class events; timely award of events for the coming years will allow hosts to plan for successful events”, said Coco Budeisky, PAHF President.
The prestigious Pan American Cups 2017, World Cup Qualifiers, both men and women, are awarded to the USA Field Hockey in the new “Home of Hockey” at the Spooky Nook complex in Lancaster, PA. The PAHF Congress will also be part of this flagship PAHF event.
“We are delighted that the PAHF has decided to award the hosting of the Pan American Cup to USA Field Hockey,” said Women’s National Team Head Coach Craig Parnham. “This is an exciting time for USA Field Hockey as we continue to grow our profile within the global game and establish ourselves at the new Home of Hockey in Lancaster, PA. We very much look forward to welcoming the Pan American Nations in 2017.” The Spooky Nook Sports facility owner and founder Sam Beiler said that “the award to host the Pan American Cup is an honor for Spooky Nook Sports and an exciting opportunity to showcase international field hockey at its best here in Lancaster County, PA”.
The Pan American Challenges 2015, both men and women, will be played in Chiclayo, Peru. The first two placed countries qualify to the Pan American Cups 2017. The Peruvian Hockey Federation was also awarded the South American Championships 2016, men and women, as they prepare to host the Pan Am Games 2019, in Lima. "It is an honor for Peru to be the host of both competitions, which will contribute for the growth of hockey in Peru y for the strengthening of the sport in our region”, said Gianni Delucchi president of Peruvian Hockey Federation.
Two other important PAHF competitions will happen in 2016: the Men’s Junior Pan American Championship, qualifier for the Junior World Cup, which will be hosted by Field Hockey Canada in Ontario; and the Women’s Junior Pan American Championship that will go to Trinidad & Tobago. "The Trinidad & Tobago Hockey Board is honored to have been awarded the Junior Pan Am ladies tournament in 2016. This provides us with the opportunity to showcase our team and promote the sport, particularly among the women and girls in our country", said Mr. Douglas Camacho, President of the TTHB. This tournament is a qualifier for the Junior Women’s World Cup that will be held in Chile, as recently announced by the FIH.
The current holders of the Indoor Pan American Cups, Canada, will have the chance to defend the titles at home, as the Men’s and Women’s 2017 Indoor Pan Am Cups, World Cup Qualifiers, were awarded to Field Hockey Canada and will be played in Toronto. The CEO from Field Hockey Canada said: "Canada is a proud and welcoming country, and we will look forward to hosting the Nations of our Continental Federation for three consecutive years in Ontario. Hosting these events is integral to the domestic development of field hockey. It provides Canadian sport fans the opportunity to watch these amazing international athletes in person. This is particularly important for our young fans. We are honored the Pan American Hockey Federation has selected Canada to host world-class events that showcase our athletes and excite our fans."
The decision on the award of hosts for the 2018 Youth Pan American Championships, Youth Olympics Qualifiers, will be postponed until after the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, when feedback from FIH will possibly affect this competition and its format (Hockey5s).
At this time, the PAHF would like to also thank Uruguay and Chile for their proposals and congratulate Canada, Trinidad & Tobago, Peru and the United States for the awarded events.
