Day 2 of the Men's Indoor Pan American Championship

Day 2 – Men – Pool A – Canada vs. Guyana: 11-3

On the first match of day two of the Men’s Indoor Pan American Championship, Canada and Guyana started the match fighting for possession. Five minutes into the match, Canada received the first penalty corner and scored off it to take the 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, Canada scored again, this time off a field goal, to go ahead of Guyana 2-0. Canada scored two quick goals both off long shots from the left; giving them a four goal lead over Guyana. However, Guyana continued to play strong and received a penalty corner, but could not convert it. With few minutes remaining in the first half, Canada received penalty corners that were blocked by Guyana’s defense; but finally converted one to go ahead 5-0 at halftime.

Canada maintained their strong scoring momentum of the first half and scored in the first minute of the second half. With fifteen minutes remaining, Canada made the score 7-0. Guyana did not let up and quickly after scored their first goal of the match. Yet, Canada came back with another quick goal of their own. Canada scored again, but Guyana again came back to make it 9-2 off a penalty corner goal with five minutes remaining. Guyana maintained their passion and scored their third goal of the game. Thus, despite playing a more even second half, Canada comes away with a big first tournament win.

Day 2 – Men – Pool B – Trinidad and Tobago vs. Mexico: 4-0

Both Trinidad and Tobago and Mexico were playing in their first tournament match. Less than a minute into the match, Mexico received the first penalty corner of the game. After beginning the match fighting for possession, Trinidad and Tobago scored three quick goals to take a 3-0 lead over Mexico. Mexico then received a penalty corner, but it was blocked by a Trinidad and Tobago defender. With five minutes left in the first half, Kiel MURRAY from Trinidad and Tobago received a yellow card. Trinidad and Tobago kept up their momentum, but behind Mexico’s sound defense the score remained 3-0 at the half. Like first half, both teams were in a battle for possession. Mexico’s keeper blocked the first penalty corner of the second half taken by Trinidad and Tobago.Trinidad and Tobago missed a penalty stroke. Midway through the second half, Trindiad and Tobago did score off a penalty corner. Edgar BORQUEZ ZILVA and Moises VARGAS GERCIA of Mexico then received yellow cards a few minutes apart. Trinidad and Tobago was unable to convert a penalty corner with no time remaining, the final score was 4-0 in favor of Trinidad and Tobago.

Day 2 – Men – Pool A – Argentina vs. Venezuela: 8-1

Argentina was looking for its second tournament win, while Venezuela was looking for its first. Argentina took the lead first; and then scored three quick goals to go ahead 4-0 midway through the first half. Venezuela continued to play strong, however, and thus, the score remained 4-0 at halftime. Less than a minute into the second half, Argentina scored a goal. Right after, however, Venezuela received a penalty corner, but could not convert it. Their persistence was worthwhile as Venezuela regained possession and scored their first goal of the match. After many penalty corners that were well blocked by the Venezuelan defense, Argentina scored two goals off penalty corners to make it 7-1. With two minutes remaining, Argentina scored another goal and with Venezuela unable to score another goal, the final score was 8-1.
