On August 5th and 6th 2013, the United States hosted Chile for two test matches. Both matches were played at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California in preparation for the 2013 Pan American Cup that will soon be underway in Brampton, Ontario. Austin Groeneveld scored first in the 13th minute that gave the United States an early 1-0 lead over Chile. The score remained 1-0 in favor of the United States at halftime. In the 48th minute, Chile’s Nicolas Renz scored to even the match, 1-1. With either team able to score again, first match resulted in a 1-1 draw. In the second match, both teams continued playing strong defense. In the 29th minute, Kevin Barber scored to give the United States a 1-0 lead that held at halftime. Midway through the second half, the United States scored two goals in a five minute span to go ahead 3-0 over Chile. With either team able to score in the rest of the match, the United States came away with the 3-0 victory. Both teams acknowledged the importance of this series in preparation for the 2013 Pan American Cup.
