The Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Board is proud to announce the promotion of Ayanna Mc Clean to the Umpire’s Outdoor Promising List of the International Hockey Federation (FIH). This list comprises those Umpires who, at their recent Tournaments, have shown the potential to officiate at FIH Grade 1 level. The former national hockey player received news of her promotion following the Pan American South American Championships last month. She also recently officiated at the FIH World League Round II competition which was held in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
Ayanna, who holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, is a past pupil of South-East Port-of-Spain Secondary School. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Economics from Hofstra University in the USA.
She now resides in Long Island, New York, and has been a member of Ventures Hockey Club, the oldest women’s club in Trinidad and Tobago, for the past 16 years. Ventures celebrated its 85th anniversary last year. Ayanna has captained South-East Port-of-Spain, Ventures Under-21 and Hofstra University teams to championship titles.
The six-foot tall defender was on the Dean’s List for Academics for four years whilst attending Hofstra on a hockey Scholarship. A Market Development Manager with Coca Cola International, Ayanna is the daughter of FIH Grade I Umpire (Retired) Cherill Mc Clean. She also represented T&T as a player at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo in 2003. She attained her FIH Umpire’s Badge following the Junior Pan American Games in Puerto Rico in 2005 and was appointed as a Neutral Umpire at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010.
