After three days of play, the Pool Play of the Pan American Games Men’s Competition is now complete. Canada and Argentina sit atop Pools A and B, both with nine points, respectively; while Chile and Cuba are ranked second in Pools A and B each with six points. Both Canada and Argentina had dominating wins over the other teams in its Pool. Thus, Canada and Cuba will meet in one Semi-Final and, neighbors, Argentina and Chile in the other Semi-Final.
The Semi-finals and the matches to decide 5th-8th place matches will be held on Thursday October 27th, 2011.
Leading the scoring for Canada are two of the top three scorers in the tournament thus far: Scott TUPPER, who is tied for the top goal scorer of the tournament thus far with seven goals (six off penalty corner shots), and Matthew GUEST (6 goals). While leading the scoring for Argentina is Ignacio Ricardo BERGNER who is tied with TUPPER for top goal scorer of the tournament thus far also with seven goals (all off penalty corner shots). Meanwhile, Chile will also look to rely on its penalty corner specialist, Jan RICHTER (all 5 goals off penalty corners), in the Semi-Final.
Thus, battling it out for the final matches to decide the 5th through 8th place tournament spots will be Trinidad & Tobago versus the United States in one match; and Mexico and Barbados in the other match. Both the United States and Barbados will be looking for their first Pan American Games tournament win.
