Argentina, 2022 ODESUR Champions

In the final stretch of the tournament, the top positions were defined today on the men's side. In the first match, Uruguay beat Paraguay 2-1.

In the bronze medal match, Brazil managed to take third place on the podium, beating out Peru 5-nil.

The gold medal went to Argentina, finishing the tournament undefeated. Chile, meanwhile, took home the silver medal.

5th-6th place: PARAGUAY 1 - URUGUAY 2 (men)

In the match for fifth and sixth place, Uruguay and Paraguay offered us a well-fought, even start, but the “Cimarrones” managed to open up the scoring near the end of the second quarter. They went into the break up 1-nil with a goal from Juan Casal.

In the second half of the match the Uruguayans extended the lead to 2-0 with a second goal from Casal. The match was fraught at times, Uruguay ending with two cards and Paraguay with three.

The home team was not very effective in converting from the set pieces. They did however, manage to score with 40 seconds left in the match, thanks to the effort of Aram Monges, who made the final score 1 - 2.

The result meant Uruguay stayed in the fifth position of the tournament and Paraguay finished in sixth place.

3rd-4th place: BRAZIL 5 - PERU 0 (men)

The match that would determine who took home the bronze medal was played between Brazil and Peru, with Brazil edging out a victory from Peru 5 – nil.

Brazil managed to go up 3 – 0 early in the match. Peru had a notable penalty corner, but despite the danger, it ended up squandered.

In the second half, the Brazilians scored two more goals and secured their win. Peru ended up in fourth position.

The goals were scored by: Joaquin Lopez, Andre Patrocinio x 2, Adam Imer and Patrick Van Der Heijden.

 

Final: ARGENTINA 3 - CHILE 1 (men)

In pursuit of the gold medal, Argentina faced off against Chile.

In the first part of the game, the “Leones” took advantage of their only short corner to go up 1-0 with a goal from Ferrero. Chile fought back and was able to halt the Argentine advances for most of the remainder of the first half.

However, minutes before the end of the second quarter, the “Albicelestes” increased their lead with a goal scored by Bautista Capurro, who took advantage of a rebound from the Chilean goalkeeper and made the score 2-nil.

In the second half, Chile managed to get 1 back with a goal by Raimundo Valenzuela, but with only a few minutes until the end of the game, Argentina closed the score 3-1 thanks to captain Matias Rey.

The “Leones” crown themselves champions of the tournament and take home the gold medals while Chile take home the silver.
