M16 | 5-8 | 5:30pm | MEX - BAR | 10 - 0 (3 - 0) | Final |
Mexico and Barbados played to determine spots in the fifth to eighth place matches. The match started with both teams trading possession. Midway through the first half, however, Mexico picked up its offensive intensity. Mexico scored first in the 15th minute off a penalty corner drag flick by Francisco AGUILAR MONTOYA. Mexico persisted on attack and soon had a 3-0 lead over Barbados off back-to-back goals by Leopoldo RIOS BENITEZ and (another by) AGUILAR MONTOYA. Barbados had few attacking opportunities in the first half, but kept Mexico from scoring another before the end of the half. Thus, the halftime score remained Mexico 3, Barbados nill.
In the second half, Mexico continued their offensive intensity, especially AGUILAR MONTOYA. AGUILAR MONTOYA scored three consecutive goals in a span of five minutes to give Mexico a six goal lead over Barbados. Immediately after, Mexico’s Reytson AGUAYO OLGUIN scored to make it a 7-0 score over Barbados. AGUILAR MONTOYA then scored two more goals off penalty corner in the 49th and 56th minutes, respectively. Barbados did not let up and had spurts on offense, but could not capitalize. Mexico scored one last time in the 66th minute off a field goal by GALVAN NIEVES. Thus, behind a seven goal performance by AGUILAR MONTOYA the final score was Mexico 10, Barbados nill. Mexico will advance to play in the match for fifth and sixth place.
