The second match to determine who plays in the fifth-sixth place and seventh-eighth place matches, respectively, was between Trinidad & Tobago and the USA. The United States earned the first penalty corners of the match, but could not covert. For much of the first half, both teams traded possession in the midfield. Both teams had offensive spurts, but both defenses held strong for much of the match. In 32nd minute, however, the USA managed to get past Trinidad & Tobago’s defense and Tyler SUNDEEN lifted a shot high into the goal cage. The USA kept up their offensive momentum for the final minutes of the first half, but Trinidad & Tobago’s keeper Justin PASCAL kept the score Trinidad & Tobago, nill, USA 1 at halftime.
The second half started very similar to the first half with both teams fighting for possession. Trinidad & Tobago earned the first penalty corner of the second half, but the USA’s keeper Tom SHERIDAN blocked the shot. Midway through the second half, however, Trinidad & Tobago controlled much of the play and kept the ball in their attacking half. The USA’s defense, behind many saves from keeper Tom SHERIDAN, held off a number of Trinidad & Tobago shots. Off a breakaway that had Trinidad & Tobago’s PASCAL beat, SUNDEEN scored another goal to put the USA ahead by two goals. Unable to get on the scoreboard in the final minutes, the USA came away with the 2-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago and will play Mexico in match for fifth and sixth place. Trinidad & Tobago will play Barbados in the match to decide seventh and eighth place.
