Match Report

The third match on Day 3 of the Pan American Games Men’s Competition was between Argentina and Cuba—who tied in Pool B with six points and both going to a Semifinal each were playing for who would secure the top spot in Pool B. The match started with Argentina dominating possession, but Cuba preventing Argentina from taking shots. Cuba earned the first penalty corner of the match and Yoandy BLANCO HERNANDEZ scored giving Cuba the 1-0 lead over Argentina in the 13th minute. Argentina continued to fight Cuba for possession and continued to try to attack. After Argentina missed a couple penalty corners, Argentina’s Ignacio Ricardo BERGNER scored off a penalty corner in the 23rd minute to tie the match 1-1. Soon after, Argentina’s Ibarra Pedro IBARRA gave Argentina the 2-1 lead off a penalty stroke goal. BERGNER scored another off a penalty corner increasing Argentina’s lead in the 27th minute. Argentina kept play in their attacking area and BERGNER scored a third penalty corner goal in the 34th minute that put Argentina ahead of Cuba 4-1 at halftime.

Argentina also started the second half on attack and Lucas Rafael ROSSI scored in the 37th minute to put Argentina ahead 5-1 over Cuba. Argentina continued to dominant possession and the attacking advantage throughout much of the second half. In the 50th minute, IBARRA scored off a penalty corner to give Argentina a five goal lead over Cuba. Argentina continued its scoring success off penalty corners when BERGNER scored another in the 62nd minute to make it a 7-1 Argentina versus Cuba score. Following a yellow card to Roger Eugenio AGUILERA MOLINA, IBARRA scored another penalty stroke to put Argentina ahead 8-1. Argentina’s Rodrigo Nicholas VILA made it 9-1 in the 67th minute. With a yellow card to Cuba’s Captain Yuri PEREZ PEREZ in the final minutes, Argentina’s Captain Matias Damian VILA scored, making the final score Argentina 10, Cuba 1. And Argentina secured the top spot in Pool B.
