The final match on Day 4 of the Pan American Games Women’s Competition was between Cuba and Trinidad & Tobago. The winner of this match would play Mexico in the match to decide 5th and 6th place. Trinidad & Tobago was still looking for its first tournament win. Blair WYNNE beat Cuba’s keeper Maribel GARCIA SANCHEZ to score on an open net to give Trinidad & Tobago the early 1-0 lead over Cuba in the 8th minute. Both teams continued to deny each other attacking opportunities. But Cuba’s Odelaisi CARMENATE TELLEZ scored to tie the match right before halftime. Thus, Trinidad & Tobago and Cuba were tied 1-1 at halftime.
The second half was very much like the first half. Both teams playing even and good defense to prevent each other from scoring another goal. Cuba finally broke through the score-less second half with a penalty corner goal by Mileysis ARGENTEL QUINTANTA in the 62nd minute. Cuba’s 2-1 lead over Trinidad & Tobago held for the final score. Cuba advanced to the match to decide 5th and 6th place against Mexico. While Trinidad & Tobago will play Barbados in the match to decide 7th and 8th place.
