Playing in the match to decide third and fourth place, respectively in the Pan American Games Women’s Competition was Chile and Canada. Both teams came out battling and fighting for possession. For much of the first half, play was back and forth in the midfield. In the 25th minute, Canada’s Abigail RAYE was given a yellow card. Chile then earned the first penalty corner of the match in the 27th minute and Manuela URROZ scored to give Chile the 1-0 lead over Canada. Chile maintained their offensive momentum for the rest of the first half, but Canada’s defense held strong. Thus, the score remained Chile 1, Canada nill at halftime.
In the second half, Chile took an early 2-0 lead over Canada off a field goal by Daniela CARAM in the 42nd minute. Following this goal, Chile took command of the match and controlled the tempo. Throughout the rest of the second half, play was mostly in Canada’s attacking half, but Chile kept Canada from penetrating their attacking circle. And Chile dominated possession. Chile made it a 3-0 score in the 67th minute off a field goal by Denise INFANTE. With Canada unable to score in the match, Chile came away with the 3-0 victory over Canada and the bronze medal of the Pan American Games Women’s Competition; while Canada finished in fourth place.
