Dominican Republic won the 2^nd match of Pool B on Day 1 of the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games (Women) against Guyana 4-1.

The first 20 minutes of the 1^st half was evenly contested with both teams creating scoring opportunities but neither team being able to convert any of them. Dominican Republic got their 1st goal in the 30^th minute when Agustina BIROCHO deflected a high ball into the goal. This opening goal seemingly inspired Dominican Republic and three minutes later BIROCHO converted a penalty corner to make it 2-0 and this score held until the end of the 1^st half.

Guyana despite being behind, played with a lot of courage and determination as they tried to get on the score sheet in the 2^nd half. Despite this however Dominican Republic’s Magalys ORTEGA added to her team’s tally with a field goal in the 45^th minute and five minutes later Lucia NAVAMUEL made it 4-0 in the 49^th minute.

Guyana’s “never say die” resolve was rewarded as Kerensa FERNANDES scored her team’s only goal as in the 69^th minute.
