Match Report

Uruguay won showing their “charrua style”

Brazil arrived to the South American Championship in Chile, with the illusion of showing their progresses and hard work conducted by Claudio Rocha, their coach, on the road to the Olympics. Brazil expects a great performance of the team at the Olympic Games in Rio, 2016.

It looked as the “verdeamarelhas” were going to achieve their aims, after a good job of Pacheco and Patrocinio Couto at the back, and Smith in the middle field pushing upwards.

Uruguay on the other hand, sticking to their style, waited for a chance for a counterattack, but without being able to endanger Thiago Bomfim’s goal, in the first half.

Brazil thus dominated the game, but was unable to capitalize and the teams went to halftime with a 0-0 score.

In the second half, Brazil continued pressing Uruguayan last line, and 10 minutes after the start, Thiago Pacheco, beat GK Rodrigo Cabrera.

It was then that the “ charrúas’ left their defensive attitude and started a production of risky actions in Brazil’s area. Very soon they gained a number of penalty corners and it was the fifth one that gave Matías Pereiro the chance to tie the game.

Brazil tried to recover the advantage, but Uruguay once more played with a close defense avoiding any successful actions from Brazil. Two minutes before the end of the game Canessa fell in Brazil’s area and umpires sanctioned a penalty stoke. Again Matías Pereiro beat Bomfim and gave the advantage to Uruguay and the final score, Uruguay 2- Brazil 1.
