W2 | Round-Robin | 1:00pm | PAR - GUY | 1 - 2 (1 - 0) | Final |
The second match of the 2011 Pan Am Challenge was between Paraguay and Guyana (Women). Paraguay took a quick 1-0 lead over Guyana off a field goal by Maria SERVIAN GIOSA. Play, however, continued to be tight between the two teams. Guyana was on a solid attack and earned a series of penalty corners, but could not convert any. Towards the end of the half, both teams continued to battle for possession and prevent each other from getting shots off. Thus, at halftime, the score remained 1-0 in favor of Paraguay.
The second half started the way the first half ended with both teams battling for possession. Guyana finally scored off a penalty corner in the 41st minute to tie the match 1-1. Guyana continued to maintain their attacking pressure; and kept the majority of possession for much of the second half. In the 60th minute, Guyana took a 2-1 lead over Paraguay off a field goal by Amanda GARNETT. This goal would be good enough for Guyana to come away with their first win of the tournament.
