The final match for first place of the women’s side of the 2011 Pan Am Challenge was between Uruguay and Guyana. Uruguay took an early 1-0 lead off a field goal by Lucia DE MARIA in the 5th minute. Uruguay continued their offensive pressure and kept play in their attacking half.  Uruguay’s Isabel OLASO made it a two goal lead when she had a long break away to draw Guyana’s keeper Alysa XAVIER out of the cage and drove the ball into the goal. Uruguay continued to maintain their offensive intensity, and Teresa VIANA scored off a penalty corner in the 21st minute to make it 3-0. Guyana had few attacking opportunities as Uruguay dominated possession and the tempo of the match.

Right before the halftime, Uruguay’s Paula CARVALHO scored to make the score 4-0 over Guyana just as the horn sounded. The second half began like the first half started and ended, with Uruguay pressuring strong on attack and getting an early goal. Uruguay’s Virginia BESIO made the score 5-0 off a penalty corner in the 42nd minute.

Uruguay dominated possession in their attacking half, but were prevented from getting many sound shots off. After a great save by XAVIER, Uruguay’s Florencia NORBIS shot went in to make the score 6-0 over Guyana. Around the 60th minute, Uruguay was awarded a penalty stroke, but XAVIER stopped the penalty stroke Lucia DE MARIA.

While Uruguay continued to dominate possession, Guyana defended well and kept play in the midfield. And ultimately, Guyana prevented Uruguay from scoring further Thus, with a 6-0 win, Uruguay took first and Guyana second in the 2011 Pan Am Challenge. Due to their top two finishes in the 2011 Pan Am Challenge both Uruguay and Guyana qualify to the 2013 Pan Am Cup.
