INVITATION LETTER
We invite all National Associations (NA) and Continental Federations (CF) to propose their Coaches to this course, to be run during the Pan American Games. Successful candidates may get an FIH Academy Level 3 Coach certificate. Excellent candidates may get also a Recommendation to FIH Academy High Performance Coaching course.
Application process: Each NA may nominate a maximum of 2 coaches. Candidates must apply before 8th May, 2019 using the link stated at the end of this letter. Candidates must be endorsed by their NA, CF or FIH.
Preferred Candidate: Level 3 Coaching is the coaching of Top National adult hockey players and assisting teams at Top National and also International competitions. Ideally* applicants will be a Head Coach of an Age Group team (Top 16 nations) or Senior team (Top 24 nations). Minimum of 5 years at a Top national performance level (in past 10 years). Preference will be given to applicants with experience as a lead coach responsible for the development and mentoring of lower level coaches and to candidates with an FIHA Academy Level 2 Coaching course certificate or equivalent.
*In exceptional circumstances, coaches with international club coaching experience will also be considered.
Selection Process: Applications will be considered by the course selection panel. The Panel aims to select only the most highly experienced and qualified applicants. The applicant’s National representation is also considered, with an aim to give the course as wide an international mix as possible. As part of the wider Women in Hockey initiative, we will give preference to female coaches. Candidates will be notified on the outcome of their decision asap.
Assessment process: Coaches attending the FIH Hockey Academy Level 3 Coaching course will be formally assessed throughout the course on their readiness to attend a future FIH High Performance Coaching Course.
Course outcome: At the end of this course candidates will have achieved one of three outcomes:
- FIH Hockey Academy Level 3 certificate with Recommendation to FIH Hockey Academy High Performance Coaching Course, if they are assessed as Excellent at this course
- FIH Hockey Academy Level 3 Coach Certificate, if they are assessed as Competent at this course
- Participation Certificate, for all other situations.

Language: Applicants should be an independent B2+ English speaker.
Course layout: The course will start at 8pm on 7th August and will finish in the evening of 11th August 2019. The course will be a mixed of Top FIH Trainers classroom sessions, candidate practical sessions, candidate classroom presentations and PAN AMERICAN TOURNAMENT match analysis.
Meeting point on 7th August: Candidates will meet at the designated place (TBD) in time to start the opening session at 8pm.
Participation fees: The participation fee is 500 USD per candidate. This includes:
• 4 nights bed and breakfast accommodation (double room) at the Innside Melia, Miraflores from 7th to 10th August, 2019
• Light lunch will be covered by PAHF from 8th to 10th August, 2019
• Course materials and documents
• Entry to PAN AMERICAN Matches
• Transportation hotel, course venue and Stadium
• Refreshments during the course
Note that at Games time, hotels occupation is very high and rooms will only be blocked for a short time.
For those candidates not staying at the official hotel the participating fee will be US 230. Including:
• Light lunch covered by PAHF from 8th to 10 August 2019
• Course materials and documents
• Entry to PAN AMERICAN Matches
• Refreshments during the course
Additional Nights: Arrangements have been made with the course Hotel for participants who require additional nights’ accommodation. Booking and payment of such is the responsibility of the participant.
