July 17, 2002 2nd Pan American Cup Regional Qualification Tournaments Invitation to bid
The 2nd Pan American Cup (formerly "Americas Cup") tournaments for men and women will be held during the period February - May 2004.
Twelve countries will participate in each event, namely the host country, the winner of the 1st Americas Cup and ten countries from two Regional Qualification tournaments, which will be held in January - March 2003:
- Region One will include Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.
- Region Two will include Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Canada, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Netherlands Antilles, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, USA and Venezuela.
The number of countries to advance from each Regional Qualifier to the 2nd Pan American Cup will be based on the number of countries that actually participates in each Regional Qualifier.
National Associations have been invited to bid to host the above tournaments, as well as other PAHF competitions scheduled for 2003 and 2004, but meanwhile the PAHF has already agreed that the Federacion Chilena de Hockey will host the Region 1 Qualifier for men and women in March 2003.
The 2nd Pan American Cup tournament, in addition to being the premier competition in the Americas, is also the PAHF continental tournament from which countries will qualify for the 11th FIH World Cup and World Cup Qualifier.
