Pan American Hockey Federation XIV Congress, Board and Committee meetings
The Pan American Hockey Federation held its XIV Congress, Board and Committee meetings March 12-14, 2009 during the Men’s Pan American Cup in Santiago, Chile. The Congress was honored to have in attendance Mr. Leandro Negre – FIH President, and PAHF Honorary Members – Dr. Peter Porritt and Mrs. Rosa De Massa.

The Congress elected the following people:

Beverly Johnson was awarded the PAHF Order of Merit for her outstanding contribution in the area of development.

- 50th Anniversary of PAHF
The PAHF was founded in 1959 and those present celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a gala dinner at the Club de Polo y Equitación San Cristóbal. As well, a special section was set up on the PAHF website to record the history of the Federation on an ongoing basis. During the Forum held in conjunction with the Congress, there was a presentation on the past history of the Federation as well as a discussion of the present and the future.
- Tournaments
The PAHF Board was very pleased with the organization of the PAHF tournaments held in Mexico (Junior Women), Trinidad and Tobago (Junior Men), Bermuda (Women) and Chile (Men).
New event contracts will be in place for the bids that will be due later this year for the next round of PAHF Events that will take place in 2010-2013.
- Strategic Plan
The Board also endorsed the strategic directions of the PAHF for 2009 - 2012 which among other objectives committed the PAHF to assist National Associations to be stronger in their administration. During the Forum associated with the Congress, a baseline of data was established to enable the PAHF to be able to track progress in their assistance of National Associations.
Umpiring was recognized as one of the key areas that needs specific focus and the plan of the Umpiring Committee will be given priority.
The recommendations of the PAHF Coaching task force were considered and appropriate actions to strengthen coaching in the Americas will be implemented.
