 March 1, 2009 Las Tunas Province Team won for the 7th time the Field Hockey National Championship for women, followed by the host province’s team, Sancti Spiritu. The Championship took place from February 1-10, with the participation of 6 teams. The 3rd place was for Villa Clara, after beating Santiago de Cuba (4th place). Havana finished in the 5th position and the last place was for the representatives of Camaguey Province. Teams in 5th and 6th places have lost their First National Category and will have to qualify at the Junior National Championship before next season.
