2008 PAHF Board and Committee Meetings
June 12-14, 2008 - Panama

The Pan American Hockey Federation held its Annual Board of Directors and Committee meetings in Panama City, Panama on June13-14, 2008. The Board chose to meet in Panama to assist the Panamanian Hockey Association, one of our newer members with the promotion and development of hockey. The meetings were highlighted by the attendance of many people from Panama including:

  • Mr. Miguel Sanchiz – President of the Panamanian Olympic Committee
  • Mr. Davis Peralta jr,–Deputy Director of Students Area of the Ministry of Education of Panama
  • Mr. Ademir Montenegro Cortes – President of Panamanian Hockey Association
  • Members of the Board of the Panamanian Hockey Association

The following are the key highlights from the Meetings.

Pan American Cup for Youth - 2010

The Board approved the proposal form the Competitions Committee to host a Pan American Cup for Youth early in 2010. This was as a result of a survey in which a majority of member nations were in favor of such a tournament. The bid process to determine the hosts of the tournaments will begin immediately with bids due in early October 2008. This Cup would also be a qualifier for the 2010 Youth Olympics to be held in Singapore should such a qualifier be required.

Coaching Task Force

The Board recognized the importance of coaching to the development of young players and the promotion of hockey in newer countries. A Special Task Force on Coaching was set up to develop a database and put forward a plan for the development of coaches in new and more established hockey playing countries. The Task Force is scheduled to report in November 2008

Umpiring Development

The board endorsed the priority for umpire development in the Pan American region. An aggressive umpiring development program is being devised and resources have been allocated to this project.

PAHF Strategic Plan

The PAHF strategic plan and key performance indicators were discussed in a special plenary session. Committees performance against the specific key performance indicators set in previous meetings were measured. All committees will be working towards objectives agreed to by the PAHF Board.

Events in the Pan American Region

The PAHF Board received reports on the recently held PAHF Caribbean Cup and South American Championships. Argentina and Chile were complimented for participating in the South American Championships. Planning information about the Pan Am Junior Tournaments coming up in 2008 and the Pan American Cups in 2009 was received. Key appointments for these competitions were approved by the Board.

New Format of meetings

The meetings were held under a new format with a plenary session of members of the PAHF Committees and members of the PAHF Board. The exchange of ideas was an excellent start for the days of meetings

The Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) is recognized by the FIH as the governing continental federation for all field hockey in the Pan American region. There are 26 member Nations of the PAHF. For more information please contact info@panamhockey.org.
