August 5, 2007 In 2006, the FIH introduced its "WorldHockey All Star Teams" after a suggestion of some top-level athletes. The Pan American Hockey Federation has decided to create a similar concept and name its "Pan American Elite Teams" every two years, after the Pan American Games and Pan American Cups. Hockey specialists involved or present at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro were consulted for the selection of the Elite Teams roster. Today, the PAHF is pleased to announce the two Pan American Elite Teams 2007. The Men's Pan American Elite Team 2007 is led by Pan Am Games Player of Tournament Kwan BROWNE, from Trinidad & Tobago. The Pan American Games Champion, Canada is represented by four players: its captain Rob SHORT, striker Connor GRIMES, penalty-corner specialist Wayne FERNANDES and goalkeeper Mike MAHOOD. Pan American Games runner-up Argentina also has with four players: Mario ALMADA, Jorge LOMBI, Matias REY and Fernando ZYLBERBERG.
Luciana AYMAR – the 3 time WorldHockey Player of the Year and Pan American Games player of the tournament leads the Women's Pan American Elite Team 2007. The Women’s Pan American Games Champion Argentina is represented with five players: Luciana AYMAR, Magdalena AICEGA, Alejandra GULLA, Mercedes MARGALOT and Marine RUSSO. Pan American Games runner-up USA is present with 4 players: Kelly DOTON, Carrie LINGO, goalkeeper Amy TRAN and Tiffany SNOW.
The Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) is recognized by the FIH as the governing continental federation for all field hockey in the Pan American region. There are 26 member Nations of the PAHF.
