Bridgetown, Barbados - April 20-25, 2004

Course Report

Level: Course designed for coaches in youth programs or desiring to coach in youth programs. Course will be limited to 20 participants. Although there may be more than one participant per country, preference will be given to include participants from as many countries as possible.

Location: Bridgetown, Barbados

Dates: April 20th (opening session in the evening) thru April 25th (closing ceremony). Course will be conducted during the 2nd Women's Pan American Cup.

Course conductors:
- FIH Master Coach Rodolfo Mendoza, former Olympic and men's World Cup coach (Argentina)
- FIH Coach Grade I Shiaz Virjee, former Olympic and men's World Cup coach (Canada).

Course content: April 20-23 will be classroom and field sessions (some field sessions scheduled for the Tournament field and others on hard court) in coaching for youth programs. April 24th and 25th will be morning sessions using coaching skills with youth players and afternoon attendance at Pan American Cup matches with youth players.

Costs: All expenses are the responsibility of the course participant (transportation to course and room and board at course site). Come prepared to pay at registration, an additional $US 60 for local transportation costs. Reservations at the course hotel must be made by February 27th with deposit for two nights in advance.
Rates (including breakfast and taxes): Single @ US$70, double @ US$42, triples @ US$37. Hotel reservation information will be sent when application is received.

Special Feature: Equipment kits designed for youth programs will be given to a maximum of six course participants. Equipment recipients may not be from the same country. One recipient will be from the host country. Each potential recipient must provide a contract with his/her National Association to coach four youth programs in his/her country within 12 months of the end of the course. The contract and coaching plan must accompany the course application.

The selection of recipients will be based on the potential to start new hockey programs with new youth players.

Personal Equipment: Clothes for field participation including shoes and stick, materials to take notes in classroom sessions.
