Argentina - Paraguay : 11 - 0

Argentina and Paraguay opened the third day at the Pan-American Youth Tournament, U17 in Carrasco Polo Club. Argentina defeated Paraguay 11 - 0.

Argentina continues giving a great hockey exhibition. Argentinean girls showed their supremacy before their rival, with attacks from all the front line, scoring five goals in the first half. Well performed penalty corners become their best weapon at the time to score.

In the second half the game did not change, it was still an Argentinean monologue. Argentina has shown that is one of the most “complete” teams at the tournament. Playing like one block and an excellent team performance gave the victory to Argentina, from start to end

Paraguay, with no chances to get into the semi finals should capitalize experience from the next games.


Mexico - Canada : 1 - 12

Today, the second turn was for Mexico and Canada. Both teams came from a win and a defeat. But it was Canada who now gained the chance to the semifinals after his win 12-1 over Mexico.

Canada scored early and put his own pace to the game. Mexico, anyway with effort was able to score right after. But the result did not look fair for Canada, pressing and in possession of the ball with a good number of attacks.

Mexican girls slowly started to slow down and Canada was able to score again from a penalty corner, their lethal weapon.

Second half looked more balanced although Canada lead the game at their pace. Mexico could not recover and Canada won the ticket to the semi finals


Bermuda - Chile : 0 - 17

Chile and Bermuda played the third game of the day. Chile achieved a great result 17-0 over Bermuda. Chilean GK played in the field because the needed to enlarge the difference of goals to classify. Chile succeeded.

Chile entered the pitch with strong pace and was the owner of the game in the first half. The teams went to the break with Chile leading 4-0.

Chilean girls grew strong at the penalty corners and blocked all attacks from Bermuda who was not able to avoid Chileans pressure and were overwhelmed by their rivals.

In the second half Chile fought to enlarge the result, and was successful as the game went by. Constant attacks, well executed penalty corners were the key to their victory leaving a weak Bermuda with no chance.

Now, Chile must wait the result from the match between Uruguay and USA for a place in the semi finals, still dreaming with a ticket to the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore


USA - Uruguay : 3-2

The last game of the day was between Uruguay (the host country) and USA. In a full stadium at the Carrasco Polo Club, both teams put soul and body in the pitch fighting for a place in the semi finals. USA was the winner.

The first half was balanced; both teams knew it was their last chance to get into the semi finals. USA scored early and it was Uruguay who had to do the big effort.

The attacks came from both sides, and both teams had a number of opportunities in their rival area, but none of them was able to score.

The second half turned into a battle for the victory. USA netted but Uruguay scored just after. And, when it seemed that the Uruguayans will have the great chance, the Americans netted their third. The Uruguayans kept fighting and achieved one more goal, but this was not enough to classify.

USA won the place in the semi finals and Uruguay will only keep the picture of a very good performance in the Tournament; a good start for a future work.
