The 2008 South American Championships have started in Uruguay. The Carrasco Polo Club received the men’s teams from Chile, Venezuela, Brazil, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay for the start. The championship started at 4:00pm with the game between Venezuela and Chile. This match was fully dominated by the Chilean team, who from the first minute managed all the aspects of the pitch: defense, midfield and attack. The most important thing that Chile showed, besides its quick game, was the great skill for recovery on behalf of the midfield to win. After so many Chilean recoveries, Venezuela found itself locked on their side of the pitch and did not show a good game. Chile began beating its rival by a big difference. Venezuela could not do much finding itself in the position of having to search for a change in the game for future better results. Brazil and Paraguay showed another kind of game, this match was more leveled. Both teams played well and they followed each other on the scoreboard through the entire match, until Brazil managed to get advantage over Paraguay. The problem Paraguay faced and the reason for their defeat were the balls lost in the midfield, which were used by Brazil to finish the game off. Brazil scored four field goals and only one penalty corner ended up in the net. These teams showed to be well prepared and to give battle in the championship. The host team entered the pitch with all the will. They played from the first minute attacking its rival, which was the Peruvian team. Uruguay dominated the entire match creating lots of opportunities to score and several penalty corners which were not properly used. The Peruvian team went into the pitch to counter-attack, waiting for the Uruguay team to commit a mistake in attack to use this opportunity to quickly counterattack. This tactic was not useful because Uruguay did not lose concentration through the entire match and Peru could not build their game | |||||||||
