URUGUAY TAKE DESERVED VICTORY

The men’s Uruguay team defeated Peru 3-1 in the opening match of the 8th South American Games (ODESUR) on Thursday at Club Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

In an even and tight first half, Uruguay took the lead, in the 17th minute, through a powerful penalty corner from Andrés Vásquez.

In the sixth minute, Perú missed a great chance to open the score when Jan Henze failed a penalty stroke.

After first 10 boring minutes of the second half, the match gained in excitement when Peru equalized, in the 55th minute, through Alonso Vargas. But the answer came immediately as Sebastián Castillo put Uruguay again ahead, a minute later.

In the final minute, Uruguay sealed the victory with a goal from a penalty corner.

KANNEGISSER LEADS CHILE TO OVERWHELMING VICTORY

With four goals from Thomas Kannegisser, the men’s Chilean team overwhelmed Brazil 9-1 in the second match of the first day of the VIII South American Games (ODESUR) on Thursday at Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

Brazil put up a good performance in the first half, showing their improvement and evolution as they played very evenly against a Chilean team, who were slightly superior.

Thus, they opened the score, in the 11th minute, through a penalty corner through Thomas Kannegisser and, nine minutes later, they increased the lead by Ian Koppenberger from a penalty stroke.

However, Brazil continued attacking to close the gap, in the 22nd minute, from another penalty corner through captain Luis Felipe Rews.

Nevertheless, the match change after half-time as Chile kept the pace throughout the second half, overwhelming Brazil, who succumbed to their rivals pressure.

Then, the Chilean team netted seven times through Kannegisser, in the 41st, 46th and 48th minutes; Alan Stein, in the 38th; Sebastián Kapsch, in the 55th; Raimundo Valenzuela, in the 63rd and Koppenberger in the 66th from a penalty stroke.

The colourful point was given by Brazil’s striker, Guillermo Berthold, whose parents and brothers are Argentine and he was, accidentally born in Brazil, so he is playing for their national team. Guillermo lives in Buenos Aires with his family and plays hockey at club Sociedad Alemana de Gimnasia.

URUGUAY WIN WITHOUT PROBLEMS

In the last match of the day, the women’s Uruguayan team defeated Brazil 6-0 in the 8th South American Games (ODESUR) on Thursday at Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

The Uruguayan fully dominated the first half, pressing hard Brazil to prevent them to reach Uruguay’s circle during the first 35 minutes.

However, Uruguay had to struggle with their own imprecisions in front of their rival goal and against the Brazilian keeper, Nadja Fawakhiri, who put up a brilliant performance saving her goal several times.

But Uruguay’s pressure, finally paid dividends and the Pan-American medallists opened the score, in the 17th minute, through Verónica Dupont from a corner deflection.

Three minutes later, Karina Bisignano increased the gap with a powerful shot.

In the 32nd minute, Ana De María put her team 3-0 ahead after capitalizing on a right cross.

The second half was similar to the first, with Uruguay keeping the pace to seal their victory without problems with other three goals.

They were netted by De María, in the 40th minute; Bissignano, in the 44th, and Gibernau, after 49 minutes.
