M9 | Pool A | 9:00am | CAN - BAR | 10 - 0 (6 - 0) | Final | x 2 |
On the final day of Pool Play of the Pan American Games Men’s Competition the first match was in Pool A between Canada and Barbados. Prior to the start of the match, both Canada’s Adam FROESE and keeper David CARTER were honored for their 50th international cap. Canada asserted itself early in the match and took a three goal lead over Barbados in the first 10 minutes, off goals by FROESE, Keegan PEREIRA, and Matthew GUEST. Another goal by GUEST in the 16th minute made it a 4-0 score in favor of Canada. Canada kept up their offensive pressure throughout the rest of the first half. And Scott TUPPER’s penalty corner goal gave Canada a five goal lead in the 26th minute. Strong saves by Barbados’ keeper Andre BOYCE kept Canada from taking an even bigger lead in the match. Nonetheless, Canada had a 6-0 halftime lead over Barbados off a last minute penalty corner goal by TUPPER.
Canada also came out on attack in the second half and continued to dominate possession. BOYCE, however, continued to make great saves to keep Canada from scoring in the beginning of the second half. Canada’s TUPPER scored Canada’s first goal in the 2nd half off a penalty stroke in the 46th minute to make it an 8-0 Canada versus Barbados score. Soon after, Rob SHORT increased Canada’s lead to nine goals. Barbados continued to play strong defense to keep Canada without another goal for about ten minutes. However, GUEST scored his third goal of the match in the 62nd minute to make it a 10-0 score in favor of Canada. Yet, Barbados stayed strong on defense and prevented another Canada goal; but could not manage to score one of their own. Thus, the final score remained Canada 10, Barbados nill. With the win, Canada secured the top spot in Pool A with nine points.
