The final match on Day 2 of the Men’s Competition of the Pan American Games was between Chile and Canada. The match started off at a slow pace with both teams trading possession. Canada earned the first penalty corners of the match. And Scott TUPPER converted one in the 15th minute to give Canada the 1-0 lead over Chile. Both teams continued to battle for possession throughout the first half and neither team had many attacking opportunities. In the 21st minute, Canada’s Jesse WATSON received a yellow card, but Chile could not take advantage of it. Chile and Canada continued to battle for possession in the midfield. In the 31st minute Chile’s Jan RICHTER received a yellow card.
The second half was very similar to the first. Both teams fought for possession and both teams had trouble getting into much of an attacking rhythm. On one of the few penalty corner opportunities in the second half, Canada increased its lead off a beautiful lifted shot by TUPPER in the 49th minute. Seven minutes later TUPPER scored another penalty corner goal to make it a 3-0 score over Chile. Canada’s Rob SHORT increased Canada’s lead to four goals over Chile in the 61st minute. With Chile unable to score in the final minutes of the match, the final score remained Canada 4 and Chile nill.
