In the second Semifinal match neighbors the United States and Canada played for the other spot in the Final. Both teams had scoring opportunities in the opening minutes. While the United States was nable to convert a penalty corner in the 5th minute, Canada scored first off a Brienne STAIRS field goal in the 7th minute. The United States quickly tied the match 1-1, however, when Claire LAUBACH scored a penalty corner goal in the 9th minute. Both teams continued to trade possession and have attacking opportunities. The United States went ahead 2-1 off a Michelle CESAN field goal in the 21st minute. Despite, a number of attacking chances, Canada could not manage score again by the end of the first half. Thus, the United States was ahead of Canada at halftime.
Both teams again came out battling in the second half. Canada earned the first penalty corner of the second half, but the USA defense prevented the score. The United States then took a 3-1 lead off another penalty corner goal by LAUBACH. But immediately off the restart Canada earned a penalty corner and STAIRS scored to cut the USA’s lead to one goal. Following Canada’s second goal, both teams fought hard for possession, but play was mostly with the United States attacking half. The United States’ Michelle KASOLD made it a 4-2 USA versus Canada score in the 58th minute. And after this Canada worked hard to generate attacking opportunities, yet the United States defense, behind Captain Lauren CRANDALL, kept Canada from scoring further. Thus, the final score remained USA 4, Canada 2. With the win the United States will play Argentina in the Final match; while Canada will play Chile for third place.
