The first match on Day 1 of the Pan American Games featured Argentina versus Trinidad & Tobago. With about 15 minutes remaining in the match, Argentina earned another penalty corner. Argentina’s Noel BARRIONUEVO made the score 4-0 off the penalty corner. Very quick off the restart Argentina regained possession and GARCIA gave Argentina a five goal lead over Trinidad and Tobago. Delfina MERINO made the score 6-0 Argentina over Trinidad & Tobago around the 29th minute. Trinidad and Tobago successfully preventing Argentina from scoring again in the first half and the score remained 6-0 Argentina versus Trinidad and Tobago at halftime.
Like the first half, Argentina went quickly onto attack and another goal by BARRIONUEVO around the 37th minute made the score 7-0 over Trinidad and Tobago. Just two minutes later BARRIONUEVO scored another penalty corner goal to make the score 8-0. In the second half, Trinidad and Tobago held stronger on defense to keep Argentina off the scoreboard for a long period of time. In the 58th minute, BARRIONUEVO scored again off a penalty corner to give Argentina a 9 goal lead. Carla REBECCHI made the score 10-0 Argentina versus Trinidad and Tobago with just under 10 minutes remaining in the match. MERINO scored again to give Argentina an 11 goal lead. Trinidad and Tobago prevented Argentina from scoring again and Argentina secured their first win in the Pan American Games with the 11-0 score.
