On Day 3 of the Pan American Games Women’s Competition the first match was between Argentina and Barbados. Argentina took a fast 2-0 lead over Barbados in the first minutes of the half by field goals by REBECCHI and AYMAR, respectively. Behind keeper Lana ALS, Barbados’ defense held off a number of Argentine shots. Yet, Argentina went ahead 3-0 over Barbados off a penalty corner goal by BARRIONUEVO in the 13th minute. Off the restart, Argentina’s Delfina MERINO lifted the ball past ALS to make it a 4-0 score. Argentina continued their offensive domination with five goals in five minutes that included another by AYMAR and REBECCHI as well as SANCHEZ MOCCIA, Soledad GARCIA, and María Josefina SRUOGA, respectively. Thus, with 10 minutes remaining in the first half Argentina had a 9-0 lead over Barbados. Barbados’ ALS continued to make saves, but Argentina’s LUCHETTI scored in the 31st minute to give Argentina a 10 goal lead. With Barbados able to successfully defend an Argentina penalty corner in the final minute of the first half, the score remained Argentina 10-0 over Barbados at halftime.
In the beginning of the second half, Barbados’ defense continued to play strong and keep Argentina from scoring further. After a series of penalty corners, Argentina’s D’ELIA sent in a penalty corner shot to give Argentina an eleven goal lead in the 42nd minute. GARCIA scored two more times to make it a 13-0 score by the 50th minute. Argentina continued their rapid scoring with REBECCHI scoring her third goal of the match in the 53rd minute and soon after Sofia MACCARI scored to put Argentina ahead 15-0 over Barbados. GARCIA’s fourth goal of the match increased the lead in the 58th minute. Reserve keeper Gillian MARVILLE blocked a number of shots in the latter part of the second half, but AYMAR, LUCHETTI¸ and BARRIONUEVO all scored again. Thus, the final score was Argentina 19 and Barbados nill.
