The first Pool B match on Day 2 of the Pan American Games Women’s Competition was between two Caribbean teams,Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados. Trinidad and Tobago earned an early penalty corner, but it was blocked by the Barbados’ defense. Barbados scored first off a field goal by Cher KING in the 9th minute. Barbados’ Captain Dionne CLARKE made it a two goal lead off a penalty corner in the 15th minute. Trinidad and Tobago did not let up and immediately scored off the restart. Throughout much of the first half both teams continued to battle for possession. Trinidad and Tobago had some chances to tie the match off penalty corners, but could not convert. But Trinidad and Tobago’s Kristin THOMPSON scored in the 17th minute to make it a 2-1 score. Barbados made it a 3-1 score in the final minutes of the first half off a Charlia WARNER field goal.
Both teams came out battling to start the second half. Trinidad and Tobago kept play in their attacking half. And a beautiful tipped in field goal by Arielle RAMCHAND DU QUESNAY to tighten the score to 3-2 came in the 37th minute. Back-to-back green cards to Barbados to Takirsha CAMBRIDGE and Reyna FARNUM, respectively favored Trinidad and Tobago’s attacking pressure. Trinidad and Tobago kept play in their attacking half, but had trouble getting past Barbados’ defense. And despite a yellow card to Barbados’ Tamisha SMALL in the 45th minute, Trinidad and Tobago could not take advantage. Barbados’ increased their lead to 4-2 off a penalty corner goal by Maria SEALY in the 61st minute. With Trinidad and Tobago unable to score more, Barbados came away with the 4-2 win over rival Trinidad and Tobago.
