Despite a 2-2 draw in their final Pool A match, both Cuba and Mexico have qualified for the semi-final round of the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games (Women) with Cuba topping the table.
Both teams played to an exciting 2-2 draw at the end of the first half. It was end to end action from the first whistle and it was the host country that got off the mark first with a goal by Maria CORREA in the 7th minute but Helec CARTA’s strike seven minutes later brought Cuba back level 1-1. Karen OROZCO then gave Mexico a 2-1 lead but Cuba once again got an equalizing goal when Yunia MILANES scored in the 33rd minute.
The match lost some of its sting in the second half as neither team were able to score another goal. Cuba had the edge going forward but were held at bay by Mexico. Not even the drum-playing, horning-blowing, cheering Mexican fans could will their team to a victory.
