BRA-CHI X ODESUR Games – South American Championship - DAY 5
Chile won and plays for gold medal in men's hockey final
Brazil and Chile were in charge of closing the fourth day in a night match that would define which team would face Argentina (who had beaten Uruguay 8-0 earlier that afternoon) in the final game next Sunday 16th at 8:30pm (local time -3GTM) for the first and second place in the South American Championship. Both, Argentina and Chile leading the results had qualified for the Pan American Games to be held in Toronto, Canada, next year.
The first half between Brazil and Chile was quite tough. Both teams had almost equal time of ball possession and counterattacks were constant throughout the game. 10 minutes into the first half had gone when José Maldonado put Los Diablos on the board, with the only goal in this period.
Both teams were offensive in the second half; Brazil had many opportunities to reach the goal but could not score. On the other hand, Chile proved to be stronger and managed to break the defense of Los Canarios and scored in two opportunities. Brazil was in charge of closing the match with a goal scored by Bruno Mendoça one minute before the end of the game. Chile won the match 3-1 and classified for the grand final next Sunday, while Brazil will confront Venezuela for the bronze medal at 4pm (local time -3GTM).
